Anniversary

On August 11th, 2008 Gavin and I were outside together and we saw a bunch of shooting stars and we were 18 so of course we ended up kissing a little. Come to find out, August 11th is the peak night of an annual meteor shower. We originally wanted our wedding date to be the 11th, but that didn't work out and we ended up getting married on August 16th, 2012. We tend to celebrate our anniversary sometime within the week and not always on the day of. This year we wanted to celebrate on the 11th by finding a cool place to watch the meteor shower. It was supposed to be awesome this year!
Bless my mom for taking O (again) the night of the 11th. Gavin and I took our first little overnight backpacking trip up to Lake Blanche. Not too shabby... except even though we were way up Big Cottonwood Canyon, we could still see the glow of Salt Lake City and guess what- I only saw one stinking shooting star!
The sunset that night though, was the best I have ever seen. Seriously.
Again...iPhone camera... I'm not going to be able to share much, but it was beautiful and it made the whole trip worth it. I'm so glad that Gavin agreed to be my adventure partner!

Half Birthday

Here's our nightly routine:
  • Between 8 & 8:30 we change O's clothes, change his diaper, rub him down in lavender lotion, put him in his sleeper, feed him, and lay him in his crib to fall asleep.
  • Between 8:30 & 9 we catch up on chores around the house and get ourselves ready for bed.
  • Then around 10:30 every night, this happens:
    • Me: I'm going to go look at Owen
    • Gavin: No! Wait for me!
    • *Sneak into his room and freeze if Owen flinches*
    • Me: I just want to squish him
    • Gavin: I just want to put him in my pocket
    • *Each give him a long kiss on the cheeks and make a comment about how his cheeks feel like little balloons*
    • *Sneak out*
With Heaven's help we've somehow been able to keep this child healthy for 6 months. He's such a good baby and we love him more than he'll ever know! (At least until he has his own kid).

South Dakota

I love love love Gavin. One reason I love him is that when I want to see Mount Rushmore all of a sudden, he's game for a 12 hour drive across Wyoming to spend a day in South Dakota. Happy Labor Day!
^^This is how I feel about Wyoming^^
^^It only looks sketchy from the outside, I swear!^^
^^Like my bump?!^^
^^Bear country... We drove through a wildlife park so I guess that's one step better than the zoo. Black bears are my new favorite animal... I wanted to give them all a hug they're so cute!^^

In all, the trip took us 3 days and cost less than $500. It was actually better than I thought it would be considering we spent time in Wyoming and South Dakota.
Would we do it again? Probably not.
Are we glad we did it once? Definitely.

Anniversary!

This past Saturday Gavin and I celebrated our mark of being married two years. Seriously I am so grateful for this kid. Enjoy some wedding pictures with me...
To celebrate we watched our wedding video and went on some old fashioned dates: mini golf, pizza, and tubes down a river, complete with love notes and flowers.
I don't know what else to say without turning this into a bunch of mush but the fact that Gavin married me is a slice of evidence that God loves and cares for me.
Happy anniversary Gav! Love you!

Gav & I are taking the next step in our relationship and becoming a mom & dad!
Most of you already know this, considering I am 5 months along, but I decided to make an announcement for the record.
We are due November 16th.
We already had our gender ultrasound and it's a

We are keeping it a surprise for everyone, including ourselves. I'm not really sure the reasoning behind this but I do know that we would be broke already if we knew the gender... baby clothes are so cute!
We don't have all the logistics planned out yet... who is going to work where and when and coaching and school and babysitting and money and space and the list goes on. But stay tuned for when we do figure these things out! I'm ok with not knowing... we like surprises!

Weekend Thoughts & Activities

All the wedding details I've been sharing were so fun and exciting. Planning the reception was great and everything turned out perfect. But let's be honest- the reason for it all was much more significant than any of the decorations. The most important part of the wedding was that Gav & I were sealed together under God, and yes, that is reason to celebrate.

We were able to re-celebrate all of it in Park City this last weekend. The 16th was our actual anniversary. We both worked and I was a little stressed getting our feet out the door but we were able to make it to the Deer Valley Chateaux (thanks Groupon!) in time to enjoy Historic Park City, pizza, and the hot tub. We also ate our anniversary cake that had been in my mom's freezer for the past year. Yummy!
Saturday we waited in line for the Alpine Coaster but by the time we made it to the top of the line there was lightning so we had to come back and do the coaster Sunday. Fun nonetheless. We headed to the outlets instead where I bought a J Crew Sweater that I can't wait to wear and a little Nike tank.
Along with our Groupon we got a 3 course dinner at the hotel. It was rich people food. We had never eaten a meal worth so much money and we weren't quite sure what to do with it. That was an adventure in and of itself. We later spent more time in the Hot Tub where strangers tend to open up and we watched How to Lose a Guy in 10 days and our first episode of Catfish. That show scared me.
Anyways, being with Gav on our anniversary made me think about all the reasons I love him. A lot of them are the same reasons I loved him when we were married: he's funny, he's sweet, strong spiritually. But a few of the reasons are already different. The biggest thing I have been thinking about is just how supportive he is. Whether it's me being on a crazy pill (birth control SUCKS) or wanting to do a pinterest project or go on an 18 mile hike, he is happy and fun and patient enough to help me out with it all, despite his busy schedule. I really don't understand how I lucked out getting him! Love you Gav!

A Few More Wedding Details

Top left: A wreath my neighbors made with coffee filters

The cake was something I actually didn't care too much about and a lady who worked for my dad said she wanted to do it, so I was like "sure". I had no idea it would turn out so beautiful!
Above you will see my favorite decoration of all- friends and family who were married before us. We've had so many great examples to follow.

Leave it to my mom to throw it all together! Obviously I have great family, friends, and neighbors that helped everything come together as well.

Flowers

Said I'd post more wedding pictures! I never did when the wedding actually happened so what better time to put them up than around our anniversary?
Let's talk about the flowers.
First of all, I love flowers! While planning the wedding I read in a few places to make a priority list: what you care about most to least and what you want to spend the most to least money on. Flowers and photography were my top two. Green = Gavin's favorite Color; Pink = My favorite color. Pink & green wedding = little kid watermelon ish. Yellow seemed to tone that down a bit so our colors were yellow and green with hints of pink.
My bouquet. It was so much prettier than I expected it to be! The broach on my bouquet was actually my 'something old' because it was my great grandma's. Come to find out, the person who ended up arranging my bouquet was a distant relative of mine who was close to my great grandma. It was fun to add that sentimental part to the day.
The bridesmaids and groomsmen had mini versions of the bride & groom flowers. Enjoy a few more floral pictures...
...and come back later for more details.

Happy August!

This month is our 1 year anniversary! There have been ups and downs this last year but mostly ups and I'd say Gavin and I make a pretty good married couple.
Probably the best part of our wedding was who we shared it with. Our wedding party was fantastic and so were all our guests. I still can't believe how many people came out to support our families. We were so grateful for everyone who showed their love that day!
August 16th is our official day but I love reminiscing and I loved our wedding so expect pictures all month! I haven't even gotten to the flowers and decorations yet!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Enjoy this photo of Gavin and the oatmeal he dyed green at 11 am because (according to him) I refused to make him a green breakfast.
